Why EXIF Data Matters

Photos may contain EXIF metadata such as GPS location, device details, dates or a creator's name. Which fields are present depends on the file and its export history. Review readable metadata and visible image content before sharing.

This checks selected metadata fields using one reader. It does not inspect every possible segment or prove camera support. JPEG is re-encoded; pixels, file size and color rendering may change. Technical format or color-profile data can remain. Visible faces, signs and image dimensions are not hidden by metadata removal.

What is EXIF data?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) data is metadata embedded in photos by cameras and smartphones. It can include camera settings, GPS coordinates, timestamps, device information, and more.
Is my data safe with ExifCheck?
The image tools process selected files locally in your browser using JavaScript, without uploading those images. This does not guarantee anonymity or that every metadata field is detected. Check the final file before sharing.
What image formats are supported?
The viewer accepts JPEG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF and WebP selections, but the current reader supports metadata parsing in JPEG, PNG, HEIC and TIFF, not WebP. Readable fields vary by format and file structure; a preview may also depend on browser decoding. The remover accepts JPEG, PNG and WebP, but both browser decoding and metadata rereading must succeed. The editor supports JPEG files only. These input lists are not a claim that every format or file has been tested.
Can I process multiple images at once?
The viewer and remover accept multiple images. The editor works on one JPEG at a time; download your changes before opening another file.
Why should I remove EXIF data from my photos?
Photos may contain GPS coordinates, device identifiers or timestamps that you do not want to share. Removing readable sensitive fields can reduce disclosure, but it does not hide visible image content or replace checking the final file.
Does removing EXIF data affect image quality?
The remover creates a new image. JPEG and WebP are re-encoded, so even 100% quality is not lossless. PNG keeps transparency. Keep the original, compare the downloaded copy, and check its metadata before sharing.
